Definitions of Services used for Maintenance and Repair



Emergency
        - Work required to eliminate eminent hazards to life, health and safety, to prevent eminent damage to equipment or property, to restore security or to prevent disruption of an essential activity.

Routine Maintenance
        - The recurrent, day-to-day, periodic, or scheduled work required to preserve a facility from failure and decline or to restore a facility to good working condition.

Routine Repairs
        - The restoration of a facility by overhaul or replacement of its parts that have deteriorated from action or use.

Alterations
        - The rearrangement or conversion of internal space of an existing facility.

Improvements
        - The addition of quality features to existing space by upgrading mechanical, electrical, technological systems or architectural finishes.

New Construction
        - The erection of a new facility or addition/expansion of the exterior of an existing facility.

Renovations
        - The total or partial upgrading of a facility to higher standards of quality or efficiency.

Work Project Request
        -The requesting of a service or project that is outside of the normal routine maintenance and repair of the facility. These are usually accomplished by an outside contractor and the costs associated charged to the requesting department.
